Procedure Information: Manometry & 24hr PH
Study
You have been scheduled for an Esophageal Manometry/24
hour PH study. Please follow instructions for appropriate
test.

ESOPHAGEAL MANOMETRY
- A one hour appointment is necessary for
this test.
- The following medications need to be stopped
3 days before your appointment:
a. Motility agents such as Reglan and Propulsid
b. Antispasmodics such as Donnatol, Librax, Levsin, Bentyl
and Levbid
c. Certain blood pressure medications called calcium channel
blockers such as Procardia, Norvasc, Verpamil or Calan,
Cardizem or Diltiazem. All other blood pressure medications
should be continued.
- Do not eat or drink anything 12 hours prior
to the procedure.
- Please have blood pressure checked if any
symptoms occur while off blood pressure medications.
- Please discontinue all aspirin, anti-inflammatories,
and blood thinners one week before your appointment.
24 HOUR PH STUDY
- For this procedure please follow all directions
for esophageal manometry with one exception. The following
medications need to be stopped 3 days before your appointment:
Pepcid, Axid, Tagamet, Zantac.
- Stop Prilosec, Aciphex, Nexium, Protonix,
and Prevacid 10 days prior to procedure.
Over the counter antacids, such as Tums, Mylanta, and Maalox
may be taken up to 24 hours prior to the procedure.
- This procedure will require a return
appointment the following morning for approximately 5-10
minutes.
