Procedure Information: Endoscopy with PEG Tube Placement

You have been scheduled for an examination of your stomach, esophagus and duodenum, with placement of a PEG feeding tube. This is done using a soft, flexible plastic instrument. You should expect to have a tiny incision where the tube passes through your abdomen into your stomach.

One day prior, report to the lab at Logan Regional Hospital for blood tests. A CBC, PT and PTT will be done.

The morning of the procedure, report to the admitting desk of Logan Regional Hospital at 5:30 a.m. You will be admitted to the Medical Floor. Plan to stay overnight. Shower the night before or the morning of the procedure.

The best results have been obtained by following these instructions:

A sedative is used for this examination so you will sleep for a few minutes afterwards. The study and placement takes approximately 45-60 minutes.

If you are a diabetic or have any lung, heart, kidney or liver disease, please notify the nurse. If you are diabetic do not take your insulin the morning of your examination.

This is an extremely technical and specialized examination. The instruments are delicate and expensive. The fee charged must reflect these factors. Please contact your insurance company so that they will be aware that you are scheduled for this test. It may require preauthorization, and you need to make the initial call.
